INTRODUCTION

The Ghana Developing Communities Association (GDCA) is a locally registered non-governmental organization operating in the Northern Region of Ghana. GDCA was originally incorporated under the name Ghanaian Danish Communities Association. On 10 June 2006 however, GDCA at its annual general meeting passed a special resolution to modify the name to Ghana Developing Communities Association. GDCA was established in 1980 as partner to a Danish organization Ghana Venskabsgrupperne Danmark (GV) or the Ghana Friendship Groups in Denmark. The purpose of the partnership was to establish a truly people-centred cooperation based on friendship, in the which the people of Denmark and Ghana can work together to bring about development in poor communities in Northern Ghana, while at the same time the Danish public is informed about how development is taking place in Ghana.
